A couple of years ago I had a chance to interview someone who worked at TSR in the early days about Dave Trampier. The idea was to simply celebrate and give an analysis of the man's artwork, as I was and am such a huge fan. It's one of those things, y'know- the cassette got put in a drawer and forgotten; I moved on to other projects, etc.
So, now at the age of 59, the greatest artist to ever work for TSR, to work on AD&D, has died. His work resonated deeply with me for a number of reasons, the least of which was the connection to the game. I was so taken by his artwork on the original AD&D Dungeon Master's Screen that it kept me from playing the game- I'd just sit there and drink in the details, while the DM would yell at me to "pull my head out." For a long, long time, the artwork on that screen was infinitely more interesting to me than the game itself.
As has been noted ad nauseum on the various gaming message boards across the internet, he fled the industry and his art sometime in the late 80's and so I've had a long time to come to terms with the idea that he'd never return to it. So, having already made my peace, I can't say that I'm especially affected by his passing, especially after having already mourned the loss of Dave Brockie of the band GWAR, who I believe died on the same day.
And, once again, it's over. I still have that interview and I should probably transcribe it and post it, maybe even do that examination of his art.
I dunno. What would Dave do?

Rocketship Round-up
The following is wholly the work of someone other than myself and I take no credit whatsoever for it. I present it here only as a service to players and GMs of the XXVc game.
XXV: SPACE SHIPS
Compiled By: Dave "Serpine" Rosson
Last Update: 02/06/2000
The following is a collection of all the space ships found in any
and all of the XXVc resources, including the modules and
supplements (indicated by product number) and the computer games
(indicated by 'MC'). In several cases the ship class names and
some other stats not found in the origional had to be fabricated.
A few ships were dropped (like the 30 ton pleasure yacht in
XXVCA2 which is almost point to point identicle to the 35 ton
Princess of Mars, save for an extra 5 tonnage). At least one
ship was invented totally (the 'Hades' class Ringer transport for
big mineral hauls), and several ships experienced tinkering: Even
if you sacrificed every inch of cargo the Venusian Battler II
from XXVCS3, revised as the more properly designed 'Mirage' class
here, would not have had the weapon spaces for its origional
list. Also notice there is no 'Pirate' category, since they tend
to use whatever ships they get, and remember that most ship types
are available on the market so they can be found used even in
rival groups to their origin. This is especially true of NEO
which scavanges or buys most of its ships.

XXVc Notebook- Martian Combat Gennie
This rank-and-file grunt is based on the "RAM MAR CG" from Countdown to Doomsday, with some help from the Mars in the 25th Century sourcebook.

Genotype
MCG’s are the standard issue grunts of the Martian military. Intended to be cheaply produced, they combine the standard Martian with elements of chimpanzees and desert-dwelling Earth reptiles. They can survive on very small amounts of water and can withstand prolonged exposure to cold (but not frigid or arctic)
Physical Features
Physical Size: 6 feet
External Covering: Fine scales that mimic the color of Martian desert terrain
Eyes: Yes
Ears: not really
Mouth: wide and fangy
Nose: two nearly invisible slits in the face
Cultural: None. They just hang around or train until needed.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Claws, camouflage. Heat makes them angry. MCGs will blindly follow orders from anyone they perceive as a Martian military officer.
Combat
They’re trained to attack with standard Martian military weapons, but will use fangs and claws if pressed.
Habitat/Terrain
Typical Mars military bases. In the desert, they will instinctively seek out caves or similar shelter.
Ecology
MCGs are pretty stupid and were created to be cheaply replaced. They don’t have any desire to do much of anything more than fight so they aren’t inclined to want to go AWOL.

XXVc Post-Game Report
I don't know what this is, really. Consider it a newsreel or something.
To say life has returned to normal in Montreal would be...a lie? Not true, in any case. While word of discontent among the masses has been filtering in for some months now, until recently things have been the usual numb grind it seems to have always been.
But things started to stir when word got out that history was not what we were told it was. History - real history - has reared its head and sunk its teeth deeply into the haunches of RAM.
Montreal University has initiated the defenestration of Martian rascals from its ivy-covered halls. Agents of RAM have been exposed as part of a vast plot to control the world’s information. They have targeted Montreal’s publishing trade, using it to secretly disseminate disinformation, not only to the people of Earth, but to the inner worlds as well. For years malignant lies and twisted truths have unwittingly come out of the great publishing houses of Montreal, including the hallowed halls of the great Montreal University press, in an effort to further break the will of Earth’s already demoralized population.
The key character in this drama has been identified as a Dr. Olvir Lulz who claimed he represented a group of MU professors called The Society of Curators. It was revealed that this hoax was an attempt by RAM to uncover ancient sources of knowledge and abscond with or destroy them.
With this discovery, all hell broke loose in MU and a lockdown soon commenced. In a matter of days more that 30 known agents and as many as 70 undercover agents of RAM were incarcerated. Even isolationist Ottawa lent a hand, dismantling RAM institutions and purging scores of RAM personnel, delivering them into the sprawls where brutal justice was meted out.
Montreal’s already strained relationship with RAM was snapped. NEO stepped in to shore up any weak points in the arcology’s defense and, as of February 17, 2457, RAM has vacated the entire Quebec-Montreal-Ottawa region and it has since been designated a “protectorate zone,” which includes areas south of the Canadian Federation.
